Owning a Woods Haven Puppy
Adding a new puppy to your family is a not a decision that should be taken lightly. It is a lifetime commitment, and we expect our puppy homes to ensure they are ready for such a commitment. This breed can live longer than 12 years and is unique in the sense that it is calm, quiet, compact in size, yet sturdy to go out for a walk around the neighborhood or the park. They also enjoy being next to their human companion, they do very well around children, enjoy traveling and know no strangers in the room.
Below we have compiled some answers to some of our more frequent questions.
Answers to our most frequently asked questions
Is there a contract?
Yes! The sale price is for the purchase of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy that can you can register with the American Kennel Club (AKC) as a pet only (no breeding rights). If for any reason, you can not keep the pet, I will take the dog back, no matter how old it is and no questions asked. This ensures that my breeding lines continue to improve and the dogs I produced will live the best life possible. This is my second litter and I have done everything in my power to help produce a healthy litter.
What about health testing?
Parents are OFA CERTIFIED, which means, both are enrolled in The Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) Program and have received and maintained their CHIC numbers; both are currently cleared for heart and eyes (which has to be done yearly) and cleared for patellas and hips. You can see the clearances on the website Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (www.ofa.org). In the search bar, input their registration number or name.
Both parents were DNA tested and cleared for congenital conditions: Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) - Congenital Keraconjunctivitis Sicca & Itchthyosiform Dry eye Curly Coat Syndrome - Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) - Episodic Falling Syndrome.
All the puppies in this litter have their DNA profile completed and are "not affected" of the above conditions. Also at 8 weeks of age their eyes were examined by an OFA Certified Ophtalmologist and their eyes are healthy.
Both parents are members or their respective loving families and live inside their owners' homes. The dog food brand they eat is called Fromm, and the puppies and mother are eating Fromm Puppy Gold, Brilliant Salmon Oil, Nutramax Laboratories Proviable Probiotics and Prebiotics, organic pumpkin and goats milk as needed.
The Mom and Dad of this litter live a happy, healthy life as their owners' companions and are AKC registered (American Kennel Club.) The stud, Mr. Deeds has earned his Great Grand Championship.
How much is the adoption fee?
$4000 USD, of which $500 USD are needed as a deposit to reserve your pet on a first come first serve basis. Deposit is 100% refundable if you change your mind.
What will my new puppy come home with?
Each puppy goes to his new home with an AKC microchip and the AKC registration information necessary for you to register your new puppy. New owners will have the opportunity to continue using the health insurance Trupanion that I enrolled them with since the day they were born. Please read the Trupanion.com points below. Puppy will have an OFA eyes exam/certificate (Dated Jan. 4, 2024 with a Board Certified Ophthalmologist Veterinarian Specialist). The puppy also went in for a routine veterinarian visit, was dewormed once and was given the vaccinations needed per the veterinarian schedule. Puppy will have the DNA paperwork showing cleared or variant detected for the above mentioned congenital conditions (Neither of the parents are under the “affected” parameters). Puppy will have a collar, a harness and a leash, a blanket with his mother’s scent to help him with the transition to his new home, enough food for traveling and a toy.
What else should I, as a new owner prepare before I pick up my new puppy?
If traveling by airplane, you will need a TSA or airline approved pet carrier. I recommend the brand Sherpa. Airlines’ fares varies for pet travels. Please plan accordingly.
We live 5 minutes away from Long Beach Airport (LGB) in Southern California, 30 minutes away from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, CA.
Schedule the veterinarian visit ahead of time since the warranty contract stipulates you take the puppy to your own veterinarian within 7 days of receiving your new puppy.
Decide ahead of time if trupanion.com is the pet insurance you will want your pet to have. Otherwise I hope you do enroll your pet in another type of insurance coverage. Veterinarian visits are an expense that any prospective, responsible new pet owner should take into consideration.
Buy all the puppy supplies ahead of time: dog crate, beds, pee pads, pee tray, dog food, bowls for water and food, etc etc.
When can we take our new puppy home?
Anytime after 9 weeks of age. This litter will be available starting Sunday January 14, 2024.
Who we are?
Our family has had Cavalier King Charles Spaniels since 2005. Our first pair lived to be 14 years of age. Our extended family members introduced us to this gentle breed and immediately we fell in love with their gentle disposition.
My family and I have put forth effort, commitment, many resources and much love to produce a healthy line of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. We have set up our puppy nursery in our bedroom walk-in closet and breeder sleeps next to the puppies. We have purchased an oxygen concentrator and an incubator from puppywarmer.com The stud owner has been so kindly available to us over the phone for any questions we may have. We have learned tips and suggestions using Puppy Culture protocols. We enrolled in Puppy Culture's mentor program and are eagerly observing this special rearing time and are applying their concepts to offer a wonderful lifelong friend and companion for you and your loved ones. We have also learned from Revival Animal Health YouTube videos and also bought supplies from them. I would like to thank two very special people who have guided us through this amazing experience: the stud owner, Christine Robinson, and our groomer, Debra Carlson.
